Turn stream moments into vertical clips

Streams are widescreen; TikTok, Shorts and Reels are vertical. Here's how to reframe a stream moment so it works on a phone.

Pick the right layout

  • Just chatting and IRL: crop to 9:16 centred on the streamer's face. The face is the content.
  • Gaming with a facecam: stack the facecam on top (about a third of the height) and the middle of the gameplay below. Viewers see the reaction and the cause.
  • Gaming without a facecam: crop to where the action is, usually the centre of the screen, and let captions carry the reaction.

Captions are not optional

Most short-form viewers scroll with the sound off. Use big, bold, high-contrast captions, a few words at a time, kept out of the bottom third where app buttons cover the video. In stacked layouts, put captions on the seam between the facecam and the gameplay.

Length and pacing

Start a moment or two before the payoff, not minutes before. Most stream moments work at 15 to 60 seconds. Cut dead air, and end right after the best reaction.

Export settings

  • 1080x1920 (9:16), 30 fps.
  • H.264 MP4 with AAC audio.
  • Keep files reasonably small: well under 100 MB for a minute of video.

Or let it happen automatically

HyporaAI does all of this for every Moment: face-centred crops, the facecam-over-gameplay layout for gaming streams, and big captions, exported at 1080x1920. You also get the raw footage if you'd rather edit it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best clip length for TikTok and Shorts?

For stream moments, usually 15 to 60 seconds. Shorter is better if the moment lands quickly.

Should I add a watermark?

Follow the campaign's or streamer's rules. Some require credit to the streamer; many platforms penalise watermarks from other apps.
